Who says that sexual harassment in the workplace is a woman’s problem? Well, men can also be victims of sexual harassment, take for instance, the ongoing scandal and case against former Democratic Congressman Eric Massa.
A former staff member of the 50-year-old New York lawmaker has filed a sexual harassment complaint where the male employee alleged that he was subjected to lewd remarks, groped and propositioned by Massa.
According to Debra Katz, the attorney of Massa’s former employee, the congressman would make crude propositions and gestures requesting oral sex from his employees. The abuse would also escalate when Massa is drinking.
These allegations have forced the former congressman to resign from his post but even after that, the case against Massa remains.
Surprisingly, sexual harassment complaints are mostly filed by female workers, the number of male employees complaining about it are rising. Every employee, regardless of gender, deserves to be protected against sexual discrimination and harassment as well as hostile work environment.
