The right to associate is a fundamental right of the workers. This right includes the right to join or not to join a union.
In Los Angeles, a federal judge ordered County District Attorney Steve Cooley stop the discriminatory acts employed against prosecutors who joined a union.
A preliminary injunction was filed by the Association of Deputy District Attorneys claiming contract bargaining tactic against Cooley and other county officials. The association claimed that prosecutors who joined the union were demoted, transferred or have their performance evaluation downgraded.
These acts amounted to retaliation hence prohibited.
