Recent reports claimed that the company agreed to pay $250,000.00, aside from furnishing other reliefs, in order to settle an age discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) on behalf of AT&T’s former employee.
According to the agency’s lawsuit, the said company wrongfully terminated Terry Pierce on the basis of her age. Pierce had been employed with the company for 16 years as a sales coach manager prior to her termination. She was 53 years old when she was terminated. The lawsuit further claimed that the company subsequently retained younger, lower performing sales coach managers or allowed them to transfer.
The agency considered the said act as a clear violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA). Thus, it filed a corresponding lawsuit against AT&T before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri after initially attempting to reach a pre-litigation settlement through its conciliation process.
In the past few years, AT&T has been known for its remarkable contributions to the society.
